Social and Emotional Learning

At CAS we use evidence-based practices in promoting social and emotional learning for infants, toddlers, and early learners. Teachers are trained in using the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children which was developed by the Center for Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. We follow CSEFEL’s Guiding Principles and Values:

  • Supporting young children’s social and emotional development to prevent challenging behaviors;
  • Individualizing interventions to meet children’s and families’ unique interests, strengths, and needs
  • Promoting skill building with enough intensity to affect change
  • Implementing strategies in the context of naturally occurring routines and environments
  • Ensuring fidelity of use through a systematic change process
    Modifying strategies to meet the cultural and linguistic diversity of families and children

School Wellbeing

Canadian American School aims for its students to effectively develop their academic, social and emotional well-being. In order for us to reach those goals, we offer various services that would help them have a balanced, well-rounded, holistic and most of all, fruitful lives not just for themselves but for others as well.

Our Wellness Program focuses on the following:

  • Raising our students’ level of self-awareness in terms of their abilities, strengths, talents and potentials.
  • Teaching students strategies to have a healthy management of one’s body, behavior, emotions and relationships.
  • Instilling positive behaviors such as respect, responsibility, and kindness cooperation through various age-appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Offering individualized services for students who are encountering challenges such as academic difficulties, anxiety, behavioral concerns and students who might engage in self-harm, drug or alcohol use.
  • Connecting with institutions that can provide further counseling and psychological assistance.
  • Engaging teachers and staff in various trainings and activities to maintain their personal well-being.
